The September issue
If you are anything like the majority of people, September will feel like a fresh start for you. There's something exciting with this month that might have something to do with the arrival of the cold weather, Christmas being closer than ever (yes, I'm already thinking about Christmas) or the possibilities of autumnal looks, but whatever it is we can't deny that it has something special. Now, before jumping into the new things that are yet to come, here's a little compilation of the latest news and interesting things to take a look at. And if you're missing the monthly wishlist, don't worry, it's coming your way next week...
- Goodbye to Sonia Rykiel. On the 25th of August, the French designer left us at 86 years old. Named as the Queen of Knits by the press, her creations (like the Poor Boy sweater) turned that fabric into a trend that has lasted for decades and will probably keep on going for many more. With her personal view of the fashion world and her iconic designs, she left behing a legacy that will be remembered for ages. And if you want to get your hands on some of her latest works, her collaboration with Lâncome is about to launch.
- Spike Jonze x Kenzo. When filmmakers and maisons ally, beautiful things happen. This time, Kenzo chose the American director to run a fashion film for their new fragance, and the result couldn't have been better. Starring Margaret Qualley (known for her role on The Leftovers) and with the collaboration of Sia's choreographer, it is probably the oddest spot that the industry has seen in a long time, but that's what makes it special.
- Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear. If I had to choose the best museum for fashion lovers in London, I'd probably say the V&A (apart from the Fashion and Textile one, of course). I could spend hours walking through room 40 admiring the vintage Balenciagas and Gallianos, dreaming that I was a socialité in the past century. That being said, you can imagine my excitement when I found out about this exhibition, which collects the most beautiful lingerie pieces from the 18th century to the present day, as well as some advertising posters, interesting information and even red carpet numbers. If you find yourself around Knightsbridge before March 2017, this is a mandatory stop.
- Fashion Weeks. Last but not least, what would September be without New York, London, Milan and Paris? The four capitals of fashion become the perfect scenery of style and glamour for the month, bringing together influencers, designers, photographers and everyone else who works in this industry. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to see what the maisons have prepared for spring 2017. Will be still wear mules, bombers and off-shoulder tops next season? We shall see...
