Watch, listen, read | June
- WATCH: Manhattan.
You can't consider yourself a Woody Allen fan if you haven't watched Manhattan. The film is Allen's love letter to New York, filmed in black-and-white and accompanied by a nostalgic yet contemporary soundtrack, which makes the whole thing aesthetically outstanding. The main characters are portrayed by Woody Allen himself, Diane Keaton, Mariel Hemingway, Michael Murphy and (a stunning) Meryl Streep, who make the craziest group of people. If you want to see NYC from another point of view, definitely check it out.
- LISTEN: Bastille.
I remember that I discovered Bastille because of their Laura Palmer song, like the big Twin Peaks fan that I am. From then on, I kept listening to their tunes without finding one that I didn't like, and I finally got to see them live a couple of years ago. What can I say about this English indie rock band? Dan Smith's voice, combined with those great melodies, just make all of their sounds a win-win. A new album is coming our way by the end of this summer, but in the meantime you can listen to Good Grief, the single they released this month.
- READ: «Lolita» by Vladimir Nabokov.
This book had been on my bedside table for years, and I finally got around to reading it this month. My expectations weren't really high, to be honest, but right from the beginning I knew I was going to love it. I'm pretty sure everyone knows the plot of this novel, but for those who don't, it's the story of Humbert Humbert, a literature teacher who falls in love with a 12-year-old girl. You can imagine how controversial that was in 1955 (and even now), but apart from that it goes deep into each character's mind and thoughts, which is really interesting.
